Can't Attach .mas files to E-mails

PROBLEM

This error message appears when I attempt to attach .mas files to an e-mail:

'Cannot resolve this link. This file may not be a shortcut.'

SOLUTION

On later versions of Windows, and when Microsoft® Access is installed, .mas files are pre-defined as 'Microsoft Access Stored Procedure Shortcut' files. This makes it difficult to attach them to an e-mail. If you try to attach them from within Outlook using Insert>File, the error message says 'Cannot resolve this link. This file may not be a shortcut'. There are two easy workarounds:

  • Drag and drop the files onto the e-mail instead of using Insert.
  • Use WinZip to compress the files. They will then have a suffix of .zip and will also be smaller for e-mailing.
