Incorrect Battery Charge Status

The battery charge status display (%) for the vb instrument is incorrect. Please refer to the section applicable to your model of instrument.

vb1000, vb2000, vb3000 and Profiler instruments.

These instruments do not use intelligent batteries and so cannot identify the actual percentage of capacity of the battery. Voltage value displayed in the instrument will be accurate, with the percentage status calculated.

If these values are inconsistent, which often happens after changing a battery, it is possible to realign the percentage status with the voltage value by performing a battery recondition as outlined below:

1. From the Main Menu press [7] Battery Management.
2. Press [1] Charger Control then press [2] to recondition the battery. Discharging is indicated by the flashing 'DISCHARGING' message on the screen.
3. Fully Recharge the instrument battery.
4. From the Main Menu press [7] Battery Management.
5. Press [1] Charger Control then press [3] Fresh Battery Inserted. This will ensure that the battery percentage is set to 100%.

vb5, vb6, vb7, vb8, vbBalancer and vbBalancer+ instruments

These instruments contain Lithium Ion batteries and a sensor to identify the charge status. In some situations the charge sensor may fail to report the correct charge, usually reporting low or 0%.

In it is possible to reset the charge sensor by the following steps:

1. Discharge the battery completely. (until instrument will not start)
2. Remove the battery from the instrument
3. Short the terminals of the battery for about 2 seconds
4. Re install and recharge the battery

If this procedure fails to resolve the issue it is likely the sensor has failed and should be replaced.

Note: This fault condition only affects the reported charge status and does not affect battery performance. It is safe to continue to use the battery pack.

Information: As these battery packs use Lithium Ion batteries they do not require conditioning.
