Instrument Communications with a 64-bit Operating System
QUESTION
Can I communicate with my new vbSeries (vb7, vb8 etc.) instrument if I am using a 64-bit version of Microsoft's Vista or the Windows XP Professional x64 operating system?
ANSWER
Ascent 2009 includes an UPnP USB driver that supports the 64-bit Microsoft Vista operating system. Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 is not supported by Commtest.
Users of Ascent 2008 can also communicate with the Vista 64-bit operating system, but only via Ethernet not USB. The USB driver for vbSeries instruments included with Ascent 2008 is not 64-bit compatible. Users of this software should use the Ethernet port and connect the instrument to your computer through a network router or hub, or directly via crossover cable.
