Network Bandwidth Usage

QUESTION

How much of our factory's network capacity will be used by a vbOnline system?

ANSWER

This depends on your network bandwidth and how quickly the vbOnline device will be taking recordings. You can work this out using the following formula:

  1. Count up the number of recordings scheduled per hour, totaled over all vbOnline devices.
  2. Find a match for the number of recordings per hour in the table below and look at the % of capacity used for your network speed. In most cases you'll find this is an incredibly small value.

If you are using any vbOnline devices in QuickScan mode, use the right hand column to estimate the bandwidth usage of each device. Note that it doesn't make a lot of difference how many channels each vbOnline device is scanning as the fewer the channels, the faster the scan rate.

For the purpose of this table a 'standard recording' is an 800 line spectrum. If you use 400, 1600, 3200 or 6400 line spectra, multiply the actual total by 0.5, 2, 4 or 8 respectively to obtain standard recordings. Double this value for time waveforms or spectra with phase data.
