Using Custom Accelerometer Settings on a Route

QUESTION

How can I use accelerometers with custom settings on a route? Sometimes when I'm recording a route I need to change accelerometers but there is no indication of when to switch the accelerometer over.

ANSWER

If you have a dual channel instrument you could create a parameter set using Channel 2 and the custom sensor settings. Alternatively you could include a location on the route that has a parameter set created with the custom accelerometer as the applicable sensor and a 'note to yourself' to change the accelerometer.

Setup

  • Create a duplicate location on the route for the custom recording and set the custom accelerometer as the applicable sensor in the parameter set.
  • Give this route location a meaningful name to remind yourself to change accelerometers.

For example, on a large, slow rotor a normal accelerometer may be used for bearing fault detection, but a low sensitivity accelerometer is used for 1X displacement measurements.

Your machine structure could look like this:

Large slow rotor

Motor DE

Motor NDE

Rotor

Rotor (10 mV/g)

The 1X displacement measurements are placed under the point 'Rotor (10 mV/g)', and you place the channel 2 accelerometer onto the machine for these measurements (remember the 15 character limit for the display of point names in large font when on-route).
