VB3000 Bump Test Advantages
As an advanced engineering group Insight is often required to perform the task of performing transfer function and bump tests to determine structural response. Our analysts are often required to do tests in less than ideal conditions. Extreme environmental and operation conditions make these tests difficult using the tradition methods. Using a wide variety of analyzers, we compare the ease of use and flexibility of several of the leading manufactures.
Tradition Bump Test Methods
The trail and error process of collecting bump tests for a new analyst often feels like an art form rather than a science. Information has to be set up before acquisition, resulting in messages such as "signal overload" and "waiting on trigger" etc. Parameters such as "window type", "trigger type", "% pre trigger" all have to set in advance. It can be time consuming and frustrating guessing game for the new analyst, or those who do not collect this type of data frequently.
Revolution Bump Test Methods using Long Time-Waveform.
Torsional Resonance
Our Engineers asked themselves if there was a faster easier way to capture this important data. We often use the time waveform function to collect transient torsional vibration measurements, where cracked shafts and torsional resonances are being investigated. And resonance is resonance right? But that's another story.
Bump Test using Long Time Waveform
No mystery here. Just collect a longtime waveform data, bumping the machine every five seconds or so. You get all the information you need. Collection is done in less than a minute and using the partial waveform analysis features in the software you can view all your data and report it in the comfort of your office.
Waiting for triggers, signal overloading and other warnings that made this task cumbersome and daunting are eliminated. Results using time waveform are fast and accurate with no guesswork.
Our analysts say it's similar to the old method of taking camera snapshots vs. Taking a movie.....newspaper vs. T.V
Simple three Step Process
- Collect The data
- Transfer to the Ascent Software
- Analyze the Data

Its simple and accurate.....a revolution eh!
