Summary of software and firmware changes implemented in Ascent 2009. Revision 7 August 2009
If your vbSeries instrument (vb5, vb6, vb7, vb8, Balancer, or Balancer+) serial number is below 40600 you MUST update your instrument's operating system when upgrading to Ascent 2009 and the latest vbSeries instrument firmware (3.2.63). This process is detailed in the vbSeries instrument operating system upgrade guide. If you require assistance with this task, please contact help@commtest.com.
1. If you have previously encountered communications problems between Ascent software and your vbX instrument(s) when using USB connections, please contact help@commtest.com for information on the most suitable upgrade process (for these customers we suggest upgrading the instrument firmware using their current Ascent software before upgrading the Ascent software itself to version 2009).
2. If you are upgrading from Ascent 2008 or 2008 R2 and you have previously updated your license to the newer 2008 license model, you DO NOT need to upgrade your license for Ascent 2009.
3: All existing hardware dongle licenses are compatible with Ascent 2009.
4: Ascent 2009 is NOT compatible with Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME or NT 4.0. If your computer uses one of these legacy operating systems, please continue using Ascent 2006+.
5: Ascent 2009 is no longer packaged with the Microsoft .NET Framework. If your computer does not have Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 installed, and you are not upgrading from Ascent 2007 software or later, please download and install the Framework from the following location: .NET Framework.
